Make Referrals, Get Discounts generates discount codes for the sender (if enabled) and the recipient as soon as the referral form is submitted. The recipient's code is marked as "active" and is ready for use. The sender's code is marked as "inactive" and will become active as soon as the recipient places an order using the code. To prevent abuse of this system, users are required to be logged in to your site to view the referral form. Because of this, the form cannot be displayed on your home page or any other page you'd like to be visible to non-logged-in users.


We recommend you make an information page explaining the referral system and the benefits for referring friends and link to the form from that page. Linking to the information page from your menu might be a good idea as well. (See example)

To add an information page, log in to your OpenCart dashboard and go to: Catalog > Information

Click Insert at the top right to add a new page. Be sure to also go to the Data tab and fill in the SEO Keyword field.

Next, add a new information page that will display the form. To do this, you'll first have to create a new Layout under System > Design > Layouts. Check here for more information about Layouts.

Then create your new information page (Catalog > Information. Then click Insert.).

Add your page information here and include any information you'd like above or below the referral form. Then go to the Data tab and give your page a unique name for its URL under SEO Keyword. Then click the Design tab and choose the layout you just created under Layout Override.

Next, add the referral form to your new information page. Go to Extensions > Modules and click Edit to the right of Make Referrals, Get Discounts.

Click the Add Module button at the bottom right of that page. Then select the layout you just created under Layout. You can adjust the Position and Sort Order as you see fit.

And you're done! You now have a dedicated page for your MRGD form and a page explaining how it works. You can send the explanation page link to your customers and/or link to it from your site's menu and watch the orders roll in.




To do this, you'll have to add a new Layout to OpenCart. Go to: System > Design > Layouts

Click Edit to the right of the Layout named Checkout. Change the Route there to read checkout/checkout

Click Save at the top right. Now create a new Layout by clicking the Insert button at the top right. Call the new Layout Checkout Success, then click the Add Route button. Add the route checkout/success in the Route field. Then click the Save button at the top right.

Now go to the MRGD admin page by going to Extensions > Modules and clicking Edit to the right of Make Referrals, Get Discounts.

Click the Add Module button at the bottom right of that page. Then select the Checkout Success layout you just created under Layout. You can adjust the Position and Sort Order as you see fit.

And you're done! Now your customers will see a way to save money on their next order by sending referrals to their friends!




To do this, you'll have to add a new Layout to OpenCart. Go to: System > Design > Layouts

Change the Account layout route to account/login

Add a new layout, call it whatever you'd like, with the route account/account

Now go to the MRGD admin page and add the new layout you created.

And you're done. Now users can send emails to their friends promoting your store!
